We removed what didn't matter and increased traffic to what did.

Get Them in the Door
Mission College's student journey was like a 3 legged stool: programs, free tuition and steps to apply. We created numerous entry points to these and made sure they all included links to each other.
A prominent "Start Here" link above the fold on the homepage offers students clear direction and leads to a page teaching them how to be a student (key for our first-gen audience).
Build a digital welcome center
We worked closely with the admissions team to make the web process clear and proactively offer hints. Since most of our students are local, we always are reminding them of the walk-in help center
Too Much Stuff
The previous site had such long dropdowns they went off the page! Every node was included in the navigation.
- 01 Reduced overall navigation items. Moved to a hub and spoke model for larger sections.
- 02 Audited pages and reduced old and outdated content by 60%.
- 03 I added a tapbar on mobile so the most important links are always with you.
Solo Run
Personnel changed mid-project. I ran research, synthesis, and stakeholder work solo. AI made that feasible in a way it wouldn't have been 18 months earlier.
Speaking at Digital Collegium
Ben Demers, Mission's Director of Comms and I co-presented at Digital Collegium 2025. We drew on our experience with the Misison College redesign to discuss stakeholder buy-in. Designing the perfect website doesn't matter if leadership won't support it when I'm gone.
